You've just been told your loved one will die soon. Your only hope is a
solid organ transplant.
Imagine yourself in that place. Imagine how much time you miss from
work because of care giving in the hospital, going to doctors or sick at
home.
Most of us don't work for people that care enough about you to suffer
through that with you. Now you find yourself without a job or taking a job
with less pay, no benefits and people that care even less about you and your
problems. This is a worst case scenario but at all levels this is hard.
Friends
and neighbors have helped and helped but they are becoming tired of the
load. Even those who were so heart broken for you and gave so much to help
are becoming distant and unavailable.
You
realize that you can't rely on the generosity of others completely and the
only thing you know to do is to work, so you work yourself to death and then
you come home and give more energy than you have left to tend to your loved
one. You become so exhausted but you can't quit.
You start
looking at the things you have around the house thinking about how to turn
them into money. Sentimentally priceless objects suddenly have a yard sale
price on them. You exhaust every avenue of loans and at the end of the day
you realize that all of this will never be enough.
You have
the hope of getting the transplant but even that hope means you may have
tens of thousands of dollars in co pay because of the lack of coverage or
you will have the entire bill because of loss of insurance. Even after a
successful transplant there are months of weekly doctor visits and a life
time of expensive medicines to buy.
It is overwhelming to say the least. We want to
help and you can too.
The Miracle ride, in memory of our daughter Savannah Faith, is a fun
easy way to be a blessing. We pray that our limited efforts will be blessed by God's
unlimited power and lives will be changed.
Savannah's gift changed lives. Both her kidneys and her liver were
placed. She also donated heart valves and eye tissue. We haven't heard
from the kidney recipients but we got to meet with her liver
recipient Alexis. A beautiful girl was 18 months old and near death at the
time of the transplant. Now she is healthy happy and just full of life.
This is a testament to what can happen when people just do the right
thing. A child who was almost 2 years old at the time was facing death.
Her parents would never see her swing, or ride a bike or just run around
playing with her friends on the playground. A father would never know the
joy of being greeted by his daughter running to him with open arms yelling
Daddy...Daddy! A mother would never know the joy of dying Easter eggs or
baking cookies with the daughter she loves more than life. They would both
lay down their own lives to give this angel back hers but they can't. It
takes someone else. It takes you!
Do the right thing with the life God gave you. Give life. Ride with us
to make a difference and
become an organ donor yourself.
